EMBRACING WELLNESS
Embarking on a fitness adventure can be a fun, fulfilling adventure!
From Gym Intimidation to Confidence: A Journey Towards Embracing Fitness
I know what it’s like to walk into a gym and have the hot, thin, young thing behind the counter look you up and down and you immediately get the urge to run…
I know what it’s like to want and need help. To look at the girl in the mirror and wish you didn’t hate what you see. Wish you didn’t hurt all. the. dang. time. I know what it’s like to have anxiety attacks over the thought of trying on clothes. To think that there is no money, no time, no possibility of me getting healthy.
The classes are too hard. The equipment is too expensive. I don’t know what I am doing. All the tapes playing in my head. All the excuses. All the depression. All the pain. All the trauma. I know it very, very well.
And I’m pretty sure you know this feeling, or something similar… otherwise, you wouldn’t be here. Remember, you’re not alone!
I was able to find options and tools that worked for me and I will share them here with you. You don’t have to go to a gym. You don’t have to know what you’re doing. You don’t have to ask a single person for help. (Please do talk to your doctor before starting any new exercise regimen, so they can help you on your journey.)
You don’t have to buy or pay for anything or go anywhere. Every single thing I do, I will show modifications that you can do at any fitness level and without any extra equipment. I will give you examples of how I got started with my chosen activities and hobbies on the cheap. And how, with my ADHD, I stay motivated to keep on my fitness journey while also giving myself grace and love when I need it.
If I can embrace a healthier, more active lifestyle as I approach the significant milestone of 50, despite the rollercoaster of perimenopause, I’m certain that you can too.
Admittedly, athleticism never counted among my natural inclinations. Throughout my school years, you’d sooner find me curled up with a novel than sprinting on the track field—yes, I was that quintessential bookworm with an inhaler perpetually benched during PE classes. Yet, here I am today, an enthusiastic advocate for fitness woven seamlessly into daily life. My transformation wasn’t miraculous—it was intentional. I discovered joy in motion, sought creative ways to incorporate exercise, and importantly, linked these activities to social interactions with friends and family. Fitness, for me, has become not just a solitary quest for health but a communal experience enriched by camaraderie and support.
Join me on this journey. Together, let’s redefine what it means to be fit at any age, reshape our destinies, and most significantly, have a blast while doing it!
I am training to ride my bike in the Transplant Games of America this summer and walk the Camino de Santiago next Spring! I hope you will join in on the fun and begin your own fitness journey right along with me.
I plan to have local group outdoor bikes rides, walks, and classes when weather permits and also offer group rides on Rouvy, as well as on demand workout videos, and online classes in the future!!
As these are added, everything fitness related will be able to be found right here on this page! Come along with me on my fitness adventures???
