Why I Gave, and Why I Keep Going

A personal story, helpful info, and how you can join the mission.

In 2013, I became a living kidney donor. I gave my kidney altruistically—to someone I barely knew—because I believed I could. Because I believed someone had to.

That decision changed my life in the best ways. Over 10 years later, my recipient is still living a full life—surrounded by grandchildren.

And me? I’m stronger than ever. My health is so good that even my lab results don’t show I only have one kidney.

What Recovery Was Like

Recovery was real—but so was the strength I found in it. There were challenges, sure, but there was also peace, clarity, and a renewed sense of purpose.

Now, I’m an active kayaker, cyclist, and adventurer. I Geocache, hike canyons, and train for national events—all with one kidney and a full heart.

Life didn’t slow down after donation. It expanded.

Thinking About Donating? Here’s My Advice

You’ve got questions. I did too.
That’s why I share openly—about what helped, what surprised me, and what I wish more people knew.

How I Keep Showing Up

I’m a Family Care Specialist for an Organ Procurement Organization in Texas, supporting families who are making the most generous decision during life’s most painful moments: donating their loved one’s organs.
Please—talk to your loved ones about your wishes. Whether you want to be a donor or not, your voice matters.
