Some days I have to stop and take a deep breath—not because I’m tired, but because I’m overwhelmed with gratitude.
Twelve years ago, I said yes to becoming a living kidney donor. I didn’t know then how fully that “yes” would change me. I just knew someone needed help—and I had a spare.
Since then, I’ve gained more than I ever gave. I’ve gained a mission. A community. A voice. And this week, as I train for my Rim-to-Rim hike across the Grand Canyon with just one kidney, I’m feeling especially thankful.
💚 I’m thankful for this body—for every step it takes, for the strength it’s built, and for how it keeps showing up, even on hard days.
💚 I’m thankful for the families I walk beside in my work—families who’ve said yes to organ donation even in moments of deep grief. They remind me every single day what selfless love looks like.
💚 I’m thankful for every one of YOU who’s shared a post, donated to my cause, asked questions, or simply said “I see you.” It matters more than you know.
This journey isn’t just about me. It’s about awareness. It’s about showing what’s possible after donation. It’s about shining a light—being someone’s Sunshine—in a world that needs more of it.
As I get stronger for the canyon, I carry all this gratitude with me—step by step, story by story.
☀️ Sunshine Says:
“Gratitude is the gear that gets me up the mountain. When the climb feels tough, I remember why I started—and who I’m walking for. Even with just one kidney, we can live big, love hard, and light up the trail for someone else.”
