Sunshine Says: What Being Called Sunshine Means to Me

I didn’t choose the nickname Sunshine. It found me—gently, over time—through the people who saw light in me before I always could see it in myself.

Sometimes it was a passing comment:
“You’re such a ray of sunshine.”
Other times, it came in moments when I was holding space for someone else—offering comfort, encouragement, or just showing up when it mattered. The name stuck, and over the years, it’s become more than a nickname.

It’s become a reminder.

🌻 It’s Not About Being Happy All the Time

Being called Sunshine doesn’t mean I’m always cheerful or that life has always been easy. I’ve walked through dark seasons—grief, heartbreak, starting over (more than once). I’ve faced moments where showing up was all I could do.

But here’s the thing: Sunshine isn’t about constant brightness. It’s about showing up anyway. It’s about choosing warmth, love, and hope—even when skies are heavy. It’s about being a soft place to land, a spark of comfort, a smile that says, “You’re not alone.”

💛 Sunshine Is a Way of Living

I’ve learned to live like my nickname. I try to be the kind of light I needed in my hardest moments.

☀️ When I officiate weddings, I bring that sunshine into every word I write.
☀️ When I train, I push through not just for strength—but for the joy of movement.
☀️ When I’m with my grandbabies, I let them see what love looks like in action.
☀️ When I share my story as a living kidney donor, it’s because I believe light grows when we give it away.

✨ A Little Light Goes a Long Way

Being Sunshine means embracing the responsibility to radiate—but it also means giving myself grace when I can’t.

Sometimes sunshine is bold and golden.
Other times it’s quiet and soft and barely peeking through.
But it’s always there. And so am I.

So if someone calls you Sunshine—or if you need to be reminded that you are the light—this post is for you.

☀️ Sunshine says:

You don’t have to light the whole world. Just be a light in someone’s.

And that includes yourself.
